Eye creams that reveals the radiance and beauty of your eyes

There are so many questions....Do they work? Are they really necessary? Will normal moisturiser not do?
The fact is the first signs of ageing appear around the eyes. The eye area has the most delicate and thin skin, it does not have sebaceous glands therefore becomes dehydrated and crepy much quicker than the rest of the face.
What you should know.... is that using your daily moisturiser around your eyes is not acceptable. It is much too heavy and will cause dragging and possible clogging which can result in puffiness. Over a prolonged period of time the skin will stretch and you will have fabulous fine lines.
So I now move on to what you should be using.. eyecream/eye serums, they are specailly desiged to stay put where you apply them and that is around the eye not into the eye.
Anti ageing eye products should be used from the age of 25 years to slow down the onset of potential fine lines and wrinkles... not forgetting squinting this is a crime and you should have your eyes tested to avoid such side effects from squinting. As a facialist with many years experience in the beauty industry, I get excited when I come across a product/s that really do make a difference. Is your skin feeling the heat? Keep your cool in the summer sun with a little help from our favourite chill-out products - Heat encourages, puffiness, swollen eyes, sweaty skin, clogged pores, breakouts and dehydration.
With this in mind, I have put together some amazing products that will give you instant results and tips on how to apply them so you can chill-out during the summer.
Firstly sleeping in your pillow is not the smartest thing to do, our lymphatic system cannot work efficiently when our face is screwed up in the pillow and the wrinkles.

Practice lying on your back with a pillow that is slightly elevated
Keep your eye cream in the fridge over night
Exfoliate very night using a controlled soft technique avoiding abrasions to the skin, this will help clear and allow those pores to breath. If you have more mature, sensitive or thin skin reduce exfoliation to two times per week.
Use serums rather than creams, should you need a cream use something more in the lines of an emulsion, these tend to be much lighter and more effective in summer.
Clay based masks with moisturising ingredients are very important, they will help clear the pores as well as adding moisture to the skin.
Avoid putting your moisturiser in the fridge as some ingredients only work with skin temperature.

We all like the feeling of the warm sun on our skin, certaintly a boost for the body and mind and a great source of Vitamin D. Is there such a thing as a safe tan, when the skin colours it is a defence mechanism against the damage already done.     Adequate protection is of the utmost importance when considering going on holiday or simply walking around in sunlight. Whether the sun is shining or not, uva rays (ageing) are just as strong as the uvb rays (burning) when the sun is out.
What to do leading up to the summer months and to avoid crepy, dehydrated, burnt and ageing skin post summer
Prior to summer or going away in the sun, it is very important to prep your skin for at least 3 months before, Using products with rich, results driven ingredients such as vitamin A,C, E & hyalaurnic acid will help to strengthen the skin defence mehcanism.  Prepping the skin will also avoid the damaging effects of prolonged sun exposure that usually results in the skin looking aged, crepy and dehydrated post summer.
The rules are:
- Prep the skin 3 months before exposing your skin to the sun.
- Use a sun protection (30+) on the face and body re-apply throughout the day.  Sun creams should be applied in layers and not rubbed into the skin otherwise you will have no protection.
- Give your skin a light exfoliation every evening to avoid congestion and to remove the build-up of sun creams that can encourage blocked pores.
- Use Vitamin rich serums every night prior to applying your night cream.
Important Note:
Sunscreens should be applied 20min before going out in the sun and should be applied in 2 layers. Often i see people applying sunscreen and at the same time rubbing it off.  This is a total waste of a product and will not protect your skin. Add Vitamin E to your sunscreen for extra protection. Sun protection should be applied all year round, however, in the summer extra precaution must be taken.

Michael Garry helps Naomi to board the Polar Express!

We are thrilled to welcome back one of Michael Garry’s most dedicated clients Naomi Zimba Davies who last week returned to London after a gruelling 100km trek to the North Pole. This trek, nicknamed ‘The Last Degree’, took her 5 arduous days, walking for 8 hours a day pulling a 40kg sled.

Naomi is a fantastically committed individual – she first got the idea of embarking on the trek from another of Michael’s clients, Chris Headley, who completed the trek last year. Michael and she worked on her fitness plan together; setting out fitness routines, nutritional regimes and generally preparing her psychologically for this trying challenge. His training plan included walking on the treadmill at an incline of 10 wearing a 9kg weight jacket and dragging 3 tyres in the park for a set period of time; this period began at 15 minutes and, by the time she went, she was doing it for just shy of 4 hours.

Naomi has been very complimentary of the service she received from Michael at the gym and Sophia at the beauty rooms. Because of the preparation she undertook she says that she actually found the physical side of the task quite easy! They walked for about 18-20 km per day but, as she’d pulled weights around Hyde Park (without the ice to help her on her way) she found her burden a lot less cumbersome. Her guides (who were explorers Børge Ousland and Thomas Ulrich) were very complimentary, saying that they’d never seen anyone tackle the challenge as well as she.

Michael and everyone at the White Room want to congratulate Naomi on completing The Last Degree and on doing it with such grace and such a fabulously positive attitude. We look forward to hearing all about how she intends to challenge herself next year (we hear she’s intent upon walking 200km to the South Pole!)

The expedition is not for the faint hearted and the White Room training programme is tough – sessions in the gym are supplemented by walking for miles with 3 tyres being dragged behind you in preparation. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Kate Middleton is going to look absolutely gorgeous at her nuptials tomorrow. Her naturally svelte and toned figure will look beautiful whichever style dress she
goes for. Nevertheless, not all of us our so lucky! For many, the traditional styles can emphasise the fat on the upper arm leaving you with an unattractive over-hang.

Michael Garry, personal trainer at White Room on Ebury Street, Belgravia, has some fool-proof exercises for any bride-to-be whose big day is fast approaching and who wants to ensure that that her upper-body is just as slim and gorgeous as Kate’s will be!

“There are four exercises which are particularly good for toning the upper-arm and, practised in conjunction with a balanced training programme and a healthy diet will ensure that you look your best on your Wedding Day.

“Firstly, the Push Up primarily targets the muscles of the arms, chest and shoulders. Lie chest-down with your hands at shoulder level, palms flat on the floor and feet slightly more than shoulder-width apart, your feet together and parallel to each other. Straighten your arms as you push your body off the floor. Keep looking forward and don’t bend or arch your upper or lower back as your push up.

“The Hammer Curls build your biceps and forearm muscles. Hold two dumbbells to your sides, palms
facing in with your arms straight. With your elbows to your sides, raise one dumbbell until forearm is vertical and thumb faces shoulder. Lower to original position and repeat with alternative arm.

“Triceps Dips work the chest, triceps and front shoulders. Position your hands shoulder-width apart on a secured bench or a stable chair. Hover your bottom over the floor and bend your legs with your feed about hip-width apart. Lower your bottom and raise it repeatedly.

“Finally, try the Shoulder Press to work your shoulders and triceps. Use either a barbell or dumbbells and start with the weights over your head with your arms extended. Repeat the motion of slowly lowering and raising the weights to shoulder level and then back to fully-extended.”

With these fabulous flab-defying exercises, plus a good routine and diet, any bride will look perfect on her special day.

90º N latitude

The North Pole lies somewhere over the 4000m deep arctic ocean. So, unlike the South Pole, which is on solid ground the ice is constantly drifting and there is no monument or any such marker defining where the geographic North Pole is. One finds it by compass or GPS at 90º N latitude. I will be skiing the last degree (from 89º), which is roughly 110km.
The North Pole is pretty inaccessible most of year because it is too cold and dark or the ice conditions are not stable. But it is relatively stable during the month of April, and it is during this short period every year when VICAAR, a Russian agency, build a floating ice base called Barneo. Using a Russian Antonov 74 plane, we will be flown 750 miles from Longyearbyen to Barneo. The Russians at Barneo will fly us by MI-8 helicopter to 89º N. They will leave and Thommy, Bengt, Birgit and I will begin to ski towards the Top of the World.
