According to Michael Garry, personal trainer and founder of White Room, protecting your joints is crucial for maintaining a strong and therefore youthful-looking body.  As we age our muscles tend to shrink, which puts added pressure on joints he says 'It's especially important to look after the knees, as these are often the first to suffer.  Try basic squats and lunches to keep the legs strong - functional lunges (dropping into deep lunges while taking huge steps across the room) are particularly good for this'.
